Dating has looked different over the past few years. From video dating to exploring no-cost first dates in a post-pandemic world, COVID has changed how we venture into relationships. As our new normal continues to shift, so do dating trends. Here’s a look at what you can expect as you ‘swipe right’ in the New Year.
Venturing Outside Your “Type”
In the past, it was common to have a “type”. Concepts like, “I only date blondes” and “I like my men tall, dark and handsome” are out. Experts expect people to venture outside the typical physical traits they have looked for in the past.
Expanding Horizons
Dating is no longer limited to your location. Due to COVID, many people found themselves working remotely. With people still having the flexibility to work from anywhere, many are open to dating people from other states or even countries.
Since it’s easier to work from different spaces and time zones, diving into a long-distance relationship seems less overwhelming.
Dates Will Look Different
Although social distance dating is no longer the norm, inflation and sober trends may impact what people want to do on first dates. In 2022, being sober-curious was trending, and it’s expected to continue into the New Year, so that means fewer dates at the bar and more hikes, walks, and picnics.
Expect More Boundaries
In the past, people were willing to make exceptions for love. Dating someone who worked a lot or ignoring red flags wasn’t uncommon.
That’s not the case for 2023.
People won’t be willing to compromise on goals or values as they have in the past. You can expect people to have higher expectations from the start, like not tolerating last-minute cancellations or saying ‘no’ to being overbooked.
Sex Is No Longer Taboo
Let’s talk about sex! We know you’re not going to have 100% compatible sexual values with your partner, so it’s important to find a common ground.
